Description

NOMAD 1 — portable solar light tower

The Green Frog Systems NOMAD 1 portable solar light tower is built to move from one job to the next. Its refillable steel base ships without sand ballast, keeping transport weight to approximately 551 lb. Place the unit with a forklift or telehandler, fill the base with locally sourced sand to the marked level following the supplied ballast instructions, and raise the mast with the hand winch.

When the job is complete, empty the sand, retract the mast and load the unit for its next location. The ballast stays on site while the lighting asset moves with your crew.

Three configurations

NOMAD 1 + DEFENDER 70 — standard

The DEFENDER 70 combines a 70 W LED, 130 Wp solar panel, 1,152 Wh LiFePO4 battery and smart MPPT controller in one sealed head. It delivers 14,000 lm (±5%) with Type II street and pathway optics, power scaling and multiple operating programs.

Autonomy is 3–5 nights, with a full recharge in approximately 4.5 peak-sun hours. Autonomy and recharge times vary by location and season.

NOMAD 1 + DEFENDER 55 — optional

The DEFENDER 55 all-in-one solar pathway light delivers up to 36 W / 4,558 lm with a 307 Wh LiFePO4 battery. Options include twin-PIR motion boost, Type II/III optics and a turtle-friendly 590 nm light option. Autonomy is 4–8+ nights, depending on location and season.

NOMAD 1 tower only

The tower-only configuration includes the refillable base, hand winch, 19.7 ft four-section telescopic mast and 2-3/8 in tenon. A 203 lb mast load capacity supports cameras, communications equipment, sensors and emergency-response equipment.

Ground-level access

The hand-winch mast lowers the light head for installation, cleaning, servicing and upgrades. No aerial lift or tilt zone is required. The hot-dip galvanized steel structure is designed for repeated deployment.

Deployment and transport

  1. Place the unit with a forklift or telehandler.
  2. Fill the base with sand to the marked level following the supplied ballast instructions.
  3. Install and connect the selected light head at ground level.
  4. Raise the mast to operating height with the hand winch.

Ship 18 assembled units upright in a 40 ft high-cube container, or up to 80 knocked-down units. Lighting configurations support long-term storage on trickle charge for emergency deployment.

FAQ

Which NOMAD do I need?

Pick by the job. NOMAD 1 is general lighting for walkways, workforce camps and site access. NOMAD 2 is large-area lighting for laydown yards, parking lots, storage yards, security and disaster response. NOMAD 4 is temporary roadway lighting for highway work zones and dangerous intersections. Not sure? Send us your site and we’ll recommend one, with a free site performance report.

How does the refillable base work?

NOMAD 1 ships empty. Place it with a forklift or telehandler, then fill the base with locally sourced sand or ore-based fill to the prescribed density and marked fill level per the engineered ballast schedule supplied with each unit. Empty it before moving to the next location, and the ballast stays on site as clean fill.

Does NOMAD 1 need a crane?

No. NOMAD 1 is handled by forklift, telehandler or any loader with forks. The 19.7 ft telescopic mast is raised and lowered with a hand winch.

What lighting standard does NOMAD 1 meet?

NOMAD 1 is designed for general area lighting to the pedestrian and parking-facility criteria of ANSI/IES RP-8, for walkways, parking lots, workforce camps and site access roads. On construction sites it supports the OSHA 29 CFR 1926.56 illumination minimums. Site-specific photometric designs are supplied with proposals.

How is NOMAD 1 rated for wind?

Wind suitability is assessed for each job site. Every unit ships with an engineered ballast schedule, and certification documentation is supplied with the proposal. Custom configurations are available for hurricane-prone regions.

Which light head is included?

DEFENDER 70 is the standard head, delivering 14,000 lm (+/-5%) at 70 W. DEFENDER 55 is optional, delivering up to 4,558 lm at 36 W. A tower-only configuration is also available.

How long does NOMAD 1 operate without sun?

DEFENDER 70 provides 3-5 nights of autonomy using power scaling and multiple program modes. DEFENDER 55 provides 4-8+ nights. Autonomy and recharge times are engineered per site with worst-month solar verification, and will vary by location and season.

Can I mount my own equipment?

Yes. The tower-only configuration includes a 2-3/8 in tenon and 203 lb mast load capacity for cameras, communications equipment, sensors and emergency-response equipment.

Can NOMAD 1 be stored for emergency response?

Yes. It stores long-term on a trickle charger and deploys straight from a 40 ft high-cube container, so a container of NOMAD 1 units is a ready lighting fleet for emergency response and disaster recovery.

How do I order NOMAD 1?

Contact Green Frog Systems for pricing and specification. Tell us the site and the job, and we’ll recommend the configuration, program mode and ballast schedule for your location.
