Description

NOMAD 2 — portable solar power & lighting tower

The Green Frog Systems NOMAD 2 portable solar power and lighting tower uses a refillable steel base so ballast does not have to travel between projects. Ship the unit without ballast, place it with a forklift or telehandler and fill the base on site. When the work moves, empty the ballast, retract the mast and load the unit for its next location.

Transport weight is approximately 1,102 lb, depending on battery configuration. The unit ships upright with its panels stowed, with no disassembly and up to 16 units per 40 ft high-cube container.

Solar lighting and off-grid power

A 1 kW solar array rotates independently of the base. Place the unit in the orientation that suits the site, then turn the array to face south. A 10 kWh LiFePO4 battery is housed inside the vandal-resistant base, with a 20 kWh option available.

The KX1000 controller provides full-power lighting with automatic dimming at critical low battery. Constant, timed and adaptive power profiles are available, along with optional Bluetooth control for profiles, dimming and status.

Choose your floodlight package

Standard two-light package

Two 116 W LED floodlights deliver 45,666 lm total with 3000K CCT. Each floodlight aims and rotates independently.

Optional four-light package

Four 116 W LED floodlights deliver 91,000 lm for area lighting from a single tower.

LED outreach option

Single or dual outreach arms up to 9.8 ft per side carry high-output road-optic LED luminaires on the 19.7 ft mast, for intersections and gates. Luminaires are generic, so a specifying agency can fit its own locally approved, DOT-listed fixture with the optics and lens it requires.

Ground-level access

The 19.7 ft telescopic mast raises and lowers with a hand winch. Install, aim, clean and service the lights at ground level without an aerial lift. Batteries and controllers are stored inside the steel base, with optional anti-vandal bolts and supports.

Expandable power platform

NOMAD 2 provides space for additional control equipment and supports applications such as cameras, Wi-Fi, communications and servers. A second unit can be connected to double battery and solar capacity.

Deployment

  1. Place the unit with a forklift or telehandler.
  2. Fill the base with site-sourced ballast to the marked level following the supplied ballast instructions.
  3. Rotate the solar array south and aim the floodlights at ground level.
  4. Raise the mast with the hand winch.

For relocation, empty the ballast, retract the mast and load the complete unit for transport. A concrete-fill option is available for permanent installations.

Lighting design and site engineering

NOMAD 2 is designed for general area lighting to ANSI/IES RP-8 pedestrian and parking-facility criteria. On construction and work sites, layouts are designed to OSHA 29 CFR 1926.56 minimum illumination levels and ANSI/IES RP-7. Compliance is confirmed by a site-specific photometric design supplied with each proposal.

Wind suitability assessed per job site; engineered ballast schedule and certification documentation supplied with each proposal.

FAQ

Which NOMAD do I need?

Pick by the job. NOMAD 1 is general lighting for walkways, workforce camps and site access. NOMAD 2 is large-area lighting for laydown yards, parking lots, storage yards, security and disaster response. NOMAD 4 is temporary roadway lighting for highway work zones and dangerous intersections. Not sure? Send us your site and we’ll recommend one, with a free site performance report.

Can NOMAD 2 replace a diesel light tower?

Yes. The optional four-light package delivers 91,000 lm, roughly half an American football field, with no fuel, noise or emissions. Every proposal is verified against 20 years of NASA solar data for the site’s worst month.

What lighting standard does NOMAD 2 meet?

NOMAD 2 is designed for general area and work-site lighting to ANSI/IES RP-8 criteria for mine sites, workforce camps, laydown yards and work sites, and supports the OSHA 29 CFR 1926.56 construction illumination minimums. Site-specific photometric designs are supplied with proposals.

How is NOMAD 2 rated for wind?

Wind suitability is assessed for each job site. Every unit ships with an engineered ballast schedule, and certification documentation is supplied with the proposal. The mast retracts in minutes ahead of severe weather, and custom configurations are available for hurricane-prone regions.

How does NOMAD 2 move between projects?

Empty the ballast, retract the mast and stow the panels. The unit ships complete and upright without disassembly, at approximately 1,100 lb depending on battery configuration.

Can it power equipment as well as lights?

Yes. The 10 kWh battery, or optional 20 kWh, supports cameras, Wi-Fi, communications and servers. A second NOMAD 2 can be connected to double battery and solar capacity.

Does the base need to face south?

No. The solar array rotates independently of the base. Place the unit to suit the site, then turn the panels south.

Do I need a crane or aerial lift?

No. NOMAD 2 is placed with a forklift or telehandler, and the hand-winch mast gives ground-level access for aiming, cleaning and service.

Can NOMAD 2 light an intersection?

Yes. The LED outreach option fits single or dual arms up to 9.8 ft per side, carrying high-output road-optic LED luminaires on the 19.7 ft mast for intersections and gates.

How long will NOMAD 2 run without sun?

Cloudy-weather reserve depends on battery configuration, lighting output and auxiliary loads. Every proposal includes a site performance report. Autonomy and recharge times are engineered per site with worst-month solar verification, and will vary by location and season.

How do I order NOMAD 2?

Contact Green Frog Systems for pricing and specification. Tell us the site and the job, and we’ll recommend the configuration, program mode and ballast schedule for your location.
