Background

Murray Street Gawler, South Australia [view on map]

The Town of Gawler recently embarking on an exciting new initiative with the development of Gawler’s first Dog Park at Clonlea Reserve. The concept plan for the proposed dog park included the provision of solar powered lighting for the Dog Park and Fitness Trail.

Solution

A variety of lighting solutions was required at the Dog Park and Fitness Trail with the Town of Gawler requiring a combination of lighting products to address the lighting requirements for the location. These included the GFS-Stealth which operates at half power until motion is detected only illuminating to full power when the park is in use. The GFS-200 is idea for the Fitness Trail and perimeter illumination as they operate at full power all night with one configuration to operate as a twin head LED illuminating east and west of the main entrance gates.

Outcome

Clonlea park, which has separate areas for both large and small dogs can now cater for numerous dogs at any time of the day or night with some residents using this public area well after dark. The Dog Park area is evenly illuminated throughout the grounds ensuring members of the community feel safe using the facility at any time and encouraging exercise along the Fitness Trail. Overall this project was a great enhancement for the local community.

Update – Video Case Study / Site Visit – 1 Year Later

A year on from installation, we visited the site to check in and see how our lighting has fared. We are pleased to report that the locals we spoke to love the dog park and appreciate the added safety of lighting when exercising their dogs at dusk. The lighting captured in the video are our GFS-200 solar street lights, one of which is a twin head. The GFS-200 illuminates the dual entrances to both sides of the park, one section being for small dogs, and the other for large dogs.

Not captured in the video are four of our GFS-STEALTH solar pathway lights, which have been installed along the walking track around the reserve. With a slim and understated design, these lights are triggered by sensors as reserve users walk or run past.

Special thanks to the Town of Gawler, one of our trusted partners in local government, who we enjoyed working with on this project.
