Project Summary

This Railway Terrace outdoor car park for Recreational Vehicles is located in the CBD of Mareeba, QLD and runs parallel to the high street. The solar lighting component of this car parking expansion needed to meet the ASNZ1158 P4 classification lighting standard which is common for many types of outdoor and rooftop parking areas. The project also contained a pedestrian crossing area which required a higher level of illumination to conform with the standard – P6X Classification.

Background

The Railway Avenue RV Park in Mareeba was set to be transformed into an off-street parking precinct capable of accommodating 61 car park bays, six motorcycle bays and 18 RV parks. Located in the heart of the Mareeba CBD, the newly designed parking precinct will offer a free 8-hour limit and includes solar lights to improve community safety.

Solution

Green Frog Systems created an initial lighting plan for the Mareeba Shire Council which was independently verified and certified by Steve Rose & Associates Pty Ltd. – Steve Rose, is a seasoned lighting industry professional based in Queensland since the early 1970’s and has directed his own firm as a lighting designer since the early 1980’s.

Result

The Shire Council was very impressed with the appearance and performance of the new lighting. The entire project was designed and built with solar lighting as the preferred option. This meant no cabling, trenching or connection to the main power grid was required and mean the Council have no power supply charges associated with keeping this space safely lit for travelers and the local community.
